Heritage Passage Guidebook
The WNHP Guidebook has been more than three years in the making and has been the vision of the Passage’s founder, Alene Peterson. Alene developed the profile forms, collected them, visited many of the sites, written hundreds of descriptions, and devoted hundred of volunteer hours to making this vision a reality. Janet Krokson, editor of the Spooner Advocate has generously donated her time and talents to this project. There is no paid staff; both Alene and Janet are volunteers.
The Guidebook is patterned after a guide published by Handmade in America, Inc., in North Carolina: The Craft Heritage Trails of Western North Carolina. Our book contains listings, history, and colorful descriptions of studios, galleries, restaurants, historic inn, museums, growers, and heritage sites together with interesting – and sometimes amusing – anecdotes, maps, and other useful traveler information.
We are now ready to go to print, however, we are in need of additional funds to distribute and market the Guidebook. We are soliciting donations to help us complete this project by June. You can help. If you would like to donate, please visit Friends of the Passage, where you will find the forms. Donations are tax deductible; any amount is welcome.
The Guidebook replaces the Handmade & Homegrown Map. The Map, which is still available and is free. We will distribute to bookstores and other outlets for sale, publicizing and advertising when and where it will be available. You can also purchase it online here. All proceeds will be used for future editions.
If you are an artist, grower, crafter, museum curator, community theatre, dance studio, or any other arts-related business and you are interested in being listed in a future Guidebook edition, please see How to Be Listed
